Elise
I fled to Scotland after an incident on a movie set left me reeling. But my solace is short lived.
Someone is blackmailing me.
With a threat so awful I can't ignore it.
Helped by a handsome, scarred Highlander, I could figure out the identity of my blackmailer. But trust is hard to come by when everyone wants a piece of me.
And betrayal comes all too easily.
Cameron
After surviving a deadly attack, the last thing I need is more risk. Then a sweet, violet-eyed woman lands in my lap. She’s hurting, broken, just like me.
I’ve had a crush on the lass forever.
My work with the mountain rescue gives me the right skills to help her, and I cannot resist this damsel in distress.
But if I want to keep the beautiful movie star, I'll need to take on those who hunt her.
--
Swoon with Cameron and Elise, and continue with the brooding, tough, protective men of the mountain rescue and the beautiful women who tame their hearts. This story contains a wounded hero and a heroine who has suffered sexual assault. Tender loving care is a given.

Just when I think that Jolie Vines can’t make me fall in love with one of her heroes, she proves me wrong. Hunted, Vines’s newest book, features a hero in her Wild Mountain Scots series, the next-gen of her wildly popular Marry the Scots series, who is hands-down one of my favorites overall. I was intrigued with Cameron in the first book of this newest series, Obsessed. There has always been a steady quietude to Cameron, the son of William “Wasp” and Taylor whose story is featured in Picture This. Interestingly enough, Wasp was also one of my favorites in that series for the same qualities. As Hunted progresses, Cameron’s surety of spirit seen in Vines’s earlier books makes him more and more attractive. He isn’t flashy; he is dependable, trustworthy, and capable. Even more, he adores his heroine, Elise, a film actress ensconced in the poisonous world of Hollywood. While their chemistry isn’t entirely clear in the first eighth of Vines’s book, one of my criticisms of her book, Vines deftly crafts it over the course of their edge-of-your seat story.
After the first quarter of Hunted, you find a story that captivates you. One of the main reasons I adore Jolie Vines is her ability to create heroes like Cameron who absolutely adore their heroines to the point of bodily sacrifice. Each of her heroes would lay their life down for the woman they love. They don’t even need to know their heroine for long, and their dedication becomes otherworldly. Cameron and Elise are much of this. And this reader never tires of reading Vines’s heroes because they make me believe in this soulful love.
Underlying this foundation is Hunted’s story, one that is so familiar to anyone who reads the headlines. I love that Vines decided to tackle sexual harassment and the struggles of the #metoo movement through the scope of Elise’s character. Even more, she highlights the difficulties of anyone who has started in the business of Hollywood at a young age.
Besides heroes who adore their heroines, another trait that I adore about Vines’s romances is the steadiness of family. As you read story after story, the foundation of family is core to her series. Whether it’s the Marry the Scot, Wild Scot, or Wild Mountain Scot series, the McRae family provides a place for people who have been isolated to find a home. As Elise’s drama evolves in Hunted, it’s clear that she needs the home that is Cameron as her steadying force. It’s that realization that allows Vines’s readers to fall more deeply in love with the McRae family. It also underscores her message about the power of family to overcome the world.
Beyond Hunted’s delectable romance lies a story, revealed in small moments. With the exception of her beginning, Vines’s pacing for this story is key to keeping her reader engrossed. She reveals Elise and Cameron’s story in such a way that you feel compelled to turn the page to gain access to the sordid details of Elise’s story. Once I moved beyond the very beginning of Hunted, I couldn’t put this book down.
As I’ve mentioned before, my only issue with Hunted is its beginning. Elise and Cameron’s chemistry came from out of nowhere, instantly fiery without a more developed connection between the two. Additionally, Vines hints at some details in each of their stories that stop the reader to question why Vines isn’t revealing it immediately. It makes sense over the course of the story, but I found the foreshadowing too direct. I think she could have avoided it by staying silent until later in the story.
Honestly, in the grand scope of Hunted’s exceptional characterization and story, that is a minor detail. As I stated earlier, Cameron is now tied with his father for my favorite Vines hero. His love for Elise will make you swoon hard for him, and the happily-ever-after is the stuff that movies are made of.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2022This is a solid read that handled a sensitive topic well. I give it a 4.5. I loved the more extended timeline - it made the connection and overall situations more believable. I enjoyed Cameron and Elise together - they balanced each other well and were perfectly imperfect. This is only my second book by Jolie Vines, but I love how all of the characters interact - it creates a great depth to the overall plot. My only big complaint is some of her San Diego descriptions felt a little off, but unless you've lived around there you probably wouldn't notice - and it's just a slight annoyance and didn't detract from the storyline.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2025This was a great book. Liked the drama and the characters! Cant wait to read the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2024Loved Elise and Cameron's story. So hard to read about Elise's sexual abuse and then her ex and her own mother's treatment of her. Cameron has had his own issue when he first met Elise, recovering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He is such a kind man and would do anything to help Elise. They are perfect for each other! All of Cameron's extended family are so fun to read about in these books. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2022This book had me hooked from page one. The depth of Cameron’s love for Elise was beautiful. He was the perfect protector who used more than his physical strength to show his love for his partner. And although Elise was experiencing the worst sort of trauma, she saw Cameron for exactly what he was, even if it scared her at first.
Elise had a lot of trauma to work through and couldn’t trust anyone in her life. The number of shady people who should have been in her corner but used her instead was saddening. When Cameron brought her into his life he gave her so much more than just his love, he also brought his family, who immediately accepted Elise.
This had a little of everything, romance, trauma, blackmail, and discovering secret truths. It was such a good book and a wonderful addition to the growing McRae family of books.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024Wild Mountain Scots book 2. A new author for me. Cameron and Ella. She's running away from Hollywood and a whole lot of trauma. Cameron has always been a fan. Now he gets a chance to help her during her time of darkness. But when he meets his crush, it was pure craziness. Their journey to each other is filled with smexiness, twisty, hopeful, and angst ridden.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2024If you ignore the epilogue which is an intro for the next book, this is a mostly complete story (a marriage proposal was in the works at the end but doesn't occur). NOT a cliffhanger. I did not like the female lead taking her emotional hurt out on the male lead's car. This seems to be a modern theme, it isn't right, and makes the female less of a good person deserving of a happily ever after. Action/adventure? Yes. Romance? Yep. Sex? That's in there too.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024Elise is trying to run from what happened on the movie set back home. Now she just wants to be alone and heal, but the Scot that keeps checking on her is easy on the eyes! Will she be able to trust again, or will the same thing happen.
I love Jolie Vines books. Brining light to a subject Noone wants to talk about in the industry its famous in for. You feel Elises pain, her joy, her relief as she goes thru the ups and downs to finding herself and hopefully love again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hunted and Hunter. Loved it!
And another MacRae falls hard! Goodness, what a sordid journey for our heroine, never mind what poor Cameron had to go through in Obsessed! I really felt for him a few times and pondered as to who was doing what to whom a number of times. In typical Jolie Vines style, I couldn't put it down. A good book and a healthy disregard for the following day meant I read it in one sitting. There is an Easter egg to another author in this book, with a returned egg back. If you want to find out who, what, why and where, go read both! I've started listening to Jolie's books on Audible too. She's picky about her voice actors and their voices make the Story come alive. I know this one will be in my audible library soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing is a complete understatement- loved it!
Wow! This book was phenomenal - one of those books that you are so mesmerised by the storyline that the real world just fails to exist.
The fast pace, the mystery, suspense, the ups and downs - what a ride!
Loved the relationship journey, cameron is such a down to earth humble and genuine Scottish highlander and then there’s Elise the lost and hiding movie star. The fact Cameron has a childhood crush on Elise was completely adorable.
I honestly couldn’t put this book down, the mystery and suspense had me on the edge of my chair.
Beautifully written with a great ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book
A well written book with a good plot. Although I enjoyed it, sometimes I was confused as to which country we were in, US or Scotland. Also, the false Scottish accent is off putting, as it has been in every book in this series. The author should try and use ‘ye’ instead of you in the right places. It is a bit of a turn off to someone Scottish when reading a book written by someone pretending to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!
Following in from the other books in the series, I had some expectation of how I thought this book would be... and it was nothing like them, it was so much better than I could have imagined!
There’s hurt, anger, betrayal, and twists and turns, but there’s also love, understanding, honesty and family support. Cameron comes into himself in this book and truly finds his place in the world. Elise finds out everything she thought she wanted in her life was wrong for her and finds the home she needs with Cameron.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a wee bit of a mystery and naughtiness rolled into one, it’s just amazing xx

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW
I can not express how much I love Cameron 😍😍
The story had me on the edge of my seat with tears and laughter and agitation wanting to know what was going to happen next.
I loved the connection between Elise and Cameron and how adorable he was.
This hit on some hard topics but was done in an amazing way and I urge you to give this book a read. And if this is your first book PLEASE check out the others in the series as you will not be disappointed.
Bring on the next Scot 😉
